QUT offers a number of Vacation Research Experience Scholarships (VRES) in most faculties and centres during the summer vacation period. Vacation Research Experience Scholars are normally expected to participate in a project related to a researcher's ongoing research program. VRES provide students with an opportunity to experience research work. This is particularly useful to students considering undertaking postgraduate research towards a higher degree. The scholarships provide contact with active researchers and offer a challenging environment in which students have an opportunity to test for themselves and to demonstrate to others, their potential for research work. Offers are made subject to the availability of funding and appropriate supervision.

Who may apply?

Scholarships are intended for currently enrolled undergraduate students completing their second. third, or fourth year of study. International students applying for a VRES must have a current student visa and work permit for the period of the research.

What is the Scholarship?

Each scholarship is a minimum of $1550 tax exempt to be paid in a fortnightly living stipend over the period of the research to be specified in the letter of offer (between 6 and 10 weeks). Students who are receiving Centrelink payments must check directly with Centrelink as to how this payment may affect their benefits..

Terms and Conditions

The scholarship will be undertaken between mid November 2011 and mid February 2012. The period of tenure is normally broken into two parts to allow for the Christmas closure of the University.

The recipient will work on the research project for between 10 and 25 hours per week, for between 6 and 10 weeks (at the discretion of the academic supervisor).

Details of the VRES will be specified in the letter of offer.

Application Process

The application form can be obtained from the Scholarships and Prizes section of the Student Forms page.

Applications open Wednesday 15 September 2011 and close Monday 31st October 2011. It is the student's responsibility to ensure applications are received by the Faculty by 4pm on the closing date.

Applications must be submitted as a paper-based application and should be clearly marked 'Faculty of Law Vacation Research Experience Scholarship' and forwarded to:

Mailing address: Law and Justice Research Centre, Queensland University of Technology, GPO Box 2434, Brisbane, Qld, 4001
