Queensland University of Technology World Intellectual Property Organization

Jointly offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) with the support of IP Australia.

On February 27, 2012, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT)'s Faculty of Law, with the support of the Intellectual Property Office of Australia (IP Australia), will launch the third edition of the Master of Intellectual Property Law course.

This Postgraduate Course will be held at QUT in Brisbane, Australia, over a period of one academic year full-time (2 semesters) from February 27 to October 29, 2012. It is designed for students wishing to acquire the skills required to play a leading role in the field of intellectual property, through exposure to an international and comparative approach.

The curriculum aims to provide an in-depth examination of patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright and related rights, as well as a specialized and business strategy oriented analysis based on the latest developments in these fields.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Course, students will receive a Master degree of Intellectual Property Law, jointly awarded by QUT and WIPO.

The Course is open to students holding a four year Bachelor Degree in any discipline from QUT or an equivalent Australian or overseas institution. Applicants with a three year Bachelor Degree with professional experience in the field of intellectual property, may be considered for entry.

  1. WIPO Scholarships

With a view to contributing to the development of human resources in the field of intellectual property in the Asia-Pacific Region, WIPO will grant a number of scholarships to persons from developing countries of that region (Asia-Pacific region), and highly motivated to participate in this Course.
Any person fulfilling the above requirements and wishing to benefit from WIPO sponsorship to participate in this program is invited to comply with the following procedure:

(i) Make an application to QUT for enrolment by completing F form. Upon assessment of the entry requirements, QUT will send an offer letter to the applicant within two weeks approximately.

(ii) Submit the offer letter to WIPO (MIPQUT.academy@wipo.int) no later than 1 November 2011, with a copy to the Program Director, Professor Kamal Puri (kamal.puri@qut.edu.au) together with a request for WIPO sponsorship and updated curriculum vitae. WIPO would then notify the outcome of the sponsorship application.

  1. QUT Scholarships

In addition to the WIPO scholarships, the QUT Faculty of Law is also offering two full fee waiver scholarships to international students from countries in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Australia and New Zealand). The scholarships will be awarded based on academic merit in the applicant's undergraduate degree. Work experience in the intellectual property area, where applicable, also will be taken into consideration. Applicants must meet all other academic and English language requirements for the Master of Intellectual Property Law to be considered for this scholarship.

Applicants should include with their application for entry to the course a written statement advising that they wish to be considered for the Faculty of Law fee waiver scholarship. Supporting statements should include details of the relevant work experience in the intellectual property area.

Applications for entry to the course together with a supporting statement must be lodged by 1 November 2011 for 2012 course commencement. Successful applicants will be advised by 22 December 2011.
