A number of equity scholarships are available to Master of Laws by Coursework (LW51) students. The scholarships awarded exempt students from tuition fees, and are part of the QUT Law Faculty's commitment to social justice.

Who may apply?

Available to applicants who:

  • are admitted to, or eligible to be admitted to the Master of Laws by Coursework (LW51) at QUT; and
  • are an Australian citizen or have been granted permanent residence status.  In the case of the latter, the candidate must have lived in Australia for twelve months prior to the commencement of the course of study; and
  • fall within one of the equity target groups identified for this purpose; and
  • are able to demonstrate their need for this scholarship

What are the Equity Target Groups?

The equity target groups identified for the purpose of this scholarship are:

  • Aboriginal people or Torres Strait Islander people
  • Persons with disabilities
  • People from non-English speaking backgrounds
  • People from low socio-economic backgrounds
  • People from rural and isolated areas
  • Any person who can establish a special need for assistance by reasons of, for example, family or caring responsibilities

What is the Scholarship?

The scholarship exempts the successful candidate from either 100% or 50% of tuition fees for the course (as determined by the selection panel). 

Terms and conditions

In determining the successful recepient/s, the selection panel will make a decision based on the following criteria (but not limited to):

  • Eligibility for equity target groups;
  • Demonstrated need of the applicant; and
  • Demonstrated capacity of the applicant to complete the degree

Application Process

Applications for the Master of Laws Equity Scholarship are called for prior to the commencement of Semesters 1 and 2 of each year. (The Faculty reserves the right to not award a scholarship if there are no eligible applicants).
