The QUT Law Founders' Scholarship was first offered in 2000 and is made possible as a result of the generosity of law graduates, the legal profession, the Faculty of Law and the University.

Who may apply?

Available to full-time or part-time first-year students who experience socio-economic disadvantage.

Applications for the scholarship will only be made available to students who have been made an offer to undertake at QUT the Bachelor of Law (LLB) or a double degree course incorporating the Bachelor of Law program.

The scholarship is open to domestic applicants only.

What is the Scholarship?

The scholarship usually provides for a minimum of one-year of HECS fees or the equivalent amount. Part-time students receive a pro rata amount.

The recipient may also receive a professional mentor, assistance in obtaining a summer clerkship or vacation legal experience, and an academic mentor who is a member of staff.

Terms and conditions

  • The purpose of the scholarship is to help support a student undertaking the first year of the Bachelor of Laws and LLB double degree courses at the Queensland University of Technology.
  • The scholarship is for students who demonstrate socio-economic disadvantage.
  • Applicants holding other scholarships are eligible to apply.
  • The scholarship is tenable for 12 months and is subject to the recipient remaining enrolled.
  • The scholarship is provided principally for educational purposes.
  • The scholarship is usually a minimum of one-year of HECS fees or the equivalent amount.
  • The scholarship recipient shall have absolute discretion to apply the scholarship moneys towards HECS fees; Tuition and books; Living costs; or any combination of these.
  • This scholarship has been deemed tax exempt by QUT, but the Australian Taxation Office will make ultimate determination.

Application Process

Applications for the QUT Law Founders' Scholarship will be available following the QTAC major offer round in January and normally close in late February.

Applications for 2009 close at 5pm on Thursday 26 February, 2009.
