The QUT Law and Justice Executive Dean, Professor The Hon. Michael Lavarch, is a former Attorney General of Australia, and is a QUT graduate. We maintain close links with the Law and Justice professions in Australia and internationally, and students have the opportunity to learn from practising professionals, visiting professors and experts from around the world. Our law degree is recognised for admission as a solicitor in East Malaysia, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. The degree is also recognised in India and West Malaysia once graduates complete the qualifying examinations. Students have access to one of Australia's most advanced electronic court rooms containing state-of-the-art information technology and audio visual integrations. Law and Justice students benefit from award-winning custom designed software and online study facilities including recordings of lectures, cyber-tutorials, online quizzes, chat rooms and podcasts. QUT Justice offers a practical hands-on course component (i.e. Analyst Notebook), used by various government and law enforcement agencies both domestically and overseas. United Nations World Intellectual Property Organisation, SwitzerlandThe WIPO-QUT Master of Intellectual Property Law is unique to the Asia Pacific Region and offered jointly by the United Nations World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and QUT. It is available to both lawyers and non-lawyers, and is supported by IP Australia. WIPO and QUT offer a number of generous scholarships to students from the Asia-Pacific region. Members of the Singapore Police Force holding an Advanced Diploma in Police Studies from Temasek Polytechnic can complete three semesters of part time study (equivalent to 6 units), and be awarded the Bachelor of Justice (International Policing). Singaporean students wishing to find out more about this program can contact Jennifer Connell on jl.connell@qut.edu.au MalaysiaThe Bachelor of Laws is recognised by the Malaysian Bar Association as a qualifying degree for West Malaysia, and for practice as a solicitor in East Malaysia. We also have an articulation agreement with SEG International in Kuching, giving SEGi graduates up to 2 years prior credit into the QUT Bachelor of Laws. IndiaThe Bar Council of India recognised QUT Bachelor of Laws as a qualifying degree in India, and graduates can go on to practise in India once they have completed the Bar Council's examinations. We have also worked with the Indira Gandhi National Open University in that University's offering of a Master of Intellectual Property. Graduates from a recognised university in India of an undergraduate degree in any discipline can apply for entry into the QUT Bachelor of Laws with one year of credit. After completing one year of studies in the QUT Bachelor of Laws, followed by the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, students will receive a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad de La Sabana, and a Bachelor of Laws from QUT. Successful completion of the QUT Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice satisfies Australian admissions requirements for legal practitioners in Australia.
