TRANSITION INFORMATION FOR:

First year Bachelor of Justice (JS31) students moving into second year in 2007

First year students moving into second year in 2007 will transfer to the new course structure, which offers a considerably enhanced range of study options and greater flexibility.

  • The School will offer two primary majors from 2007:
    • Criminology; and
    • Policing.
  • The Justice Policy major will be discontinued, but those internal students who had planned to undertake this major will be able to take a major in Government Policy through the School of Social Sciences (units chosen in this major complement those offered through the School of Justice Studies prior to 2007).
  • A compulsory, second major has been included and students must choose one of the following options:
    • Criminology (if not chosen as first major);
    • Policing (if not chosen as first major);
    • Psychology (internal students only);
    • Information Technology (internal students only);
    • Government Policy (internal students only); or
    • Law.
    • (External students can choose to undertake a secondary major in either Criminology, Policing or Law, as the other secondary major options are only offered in the Internal mode of study.)
  • The number of units which may be taken outside of the School will be increased from 4 to 8 (comprising a combination of secondary major and elective units).  Students may source elective units from all new majors available provided the necessary pre-requisites have been completed.
  • Students who have already completed more than 96 credit points will not be required to complete the new, first year, core units, but will enrol without penalty into the second year of the new course.
