QUT's Legal Practice Course was developed in association with leading Queensland legal practitioners to ensure its quality and relevance. The course content is reviewed annually to keep it up-to-date. Our program of continuous improvement may mean the content of any course as run may vary from that described in these pages.

The approach that we take to your education and training in the course is informed by current theories of developing professional expertise and by the experience of our staff. That experience and those theories suggest that adult learners who seek to acquire professional expertise need to practise applying skills, knowledge and values in the context of the types of tasks and problems that they will encounter in the workplace They need to learn by doing in an environment that resembles real life practice as closely as is possible.

The course seeks to do this with the aim of helping you acquire skills and know-how that you can immediately apply in the workplace and that you can build on during the rest of your professional life.

Our course content conforms with the Competency Standards for Entry-Level Lawyers as contained in the Supreme Court (Admission) Rules 2004 and the course has been approved by the Queensland Legal Practitioner Admissions Board and the Chief Justice under those rules.

Details of the course content are available in the Course Content Document [107k pdf]
