Upon completion of a degree in law, students can enhance their career opportunities by gaining admission as a Legal Practitioner. To become a Legal Practitioner, students must undertake 'approved practical training' by completing either a 'Supervised Workplace Experience' program or a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Legal Practice Course) at QUT or elsewhere.

QUT's Legal Practice Course is available as a full-time course or as a part-time course. The part-time course suits graduates who are already employed in law firms. Once admitted to practice, you may apply to the Queensland Law Society for a practicing certificate as a Solicitor.

If you wish to practice as a Barrister after your admission as a legal practitioner, you will have to complete the Queensland Bar Association's Bar Practice Course (which is run at QUT). Upon successful completion of the Bar practice Course, a Legal Practitioner may apply to the Bar Association of Queensland for a practicing certificate as a Barrister.

Summer Clerkships and vacation employment are also useful ways for students to expand their experience.

Additional information on Law Admissions is available from the Law Admissions Consultative Committee (LACC).
