Your student association QUOTALS produces one of the finest employment and careers handbooks around. Full of up-to-date information, career options and interviews.

The handbook provides valuable information designed to assist students to consider the broad range of possible career opportunities that are available to graduates in law. It also contains some helpful hints on how to go about applying for positions and how to prepare for and to respond to questions at an interview. As such the handbook is a valuable service to students who may be unaware of the extensive career opportunities which are available to graduates in law.

It must be emphasised that there is a wide range of career opportunities available to graduates in law. A wide range of choice is available within law itself including private practice either as a barrister or solicitor, within government law departments, as well as work within the courts. Many other opportunities also exist outside law in areas such as business, community work, politics and the public service.

Statistical data indicates that QUT graduates readily find employment in a wide range of occupations. The undergraduate curriculum is structured to enhance career opportunities through a combination of other degree programs with a high degree of flexibile choice of subjects combined with foundation and core subjects.

In addition, the Faculty is currently seeking to further enhance the employability of graduates by giving them the opportunity to develop the specific legal professional skills and other skills that they will need to practise in changing and challenging work environments. The Faculty is seeking to give students an appropriate level of skills to enable a seamless transition from the academic to professional environment. Much greater emphasis will be placed on what law graduates need to be able to do with the knowledge imparted throughout the course.

This emphasis is reflected in the Graduate Capabilities in Law program currently in progress.
