In 2000, Tracey was awarded a British Chevening - Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Scholarship and in 2001 completed a Master of Laws Degree at the University of Cambridge (Wolfson College), England. She is a graduate of the B Business (Accountancy) / B Laws combined degree course at QUT, where she received first class honors and a University Medal for her law studies.

Researching mainly in the area of Torts Law, Tracey has published and presented conference papers on the law of negligence, damages assessment, wrongful death, and causation.
