Michael is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and is admitted to practice in NSW, QLD and the High Court of Australia. He has practised as a Solicitor in the areas of litigation, commercial law and intellectual property law.

Michael has been teaching at university level for five years and has ten years prior training experience in human rights organisations, community legal centres and the arts, including teaching in Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

He has previously worked for the United Nations in East Timor as a Civic Education Officer, as the Legal Training and Development Coordinator for the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and as a Program Officer for various international human rights training organisations.

Michael is QLD State Convenor of Australian Lawyers for Human Rights (ALHR) and is a member of the International Law Association (ILA) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).

He has published in Australia and internationally in the areas of human rights, democratisation and capacity building and writes in the areas of international law, human rights, democratisation and UN Peacekeeping.
