(Gardens Point campus) Fiona joined the Faculty staff as an Associate Lecturer in 2007. Prior to her appointment Fiona was a research associate at the Health Law Institute at Dalhousie University, Canada and a legal advisor to New Zealand’s Health and Disability Commissioner. Fiona is completing her doctoral studies at Dalhousie University. Fiona’s research encompasses issues related to health governance and has four broad themes: the governance of health institutions; the governance of health research; the governance of health professionals and the governance of patient safety throughout the health sector. Fiona’s work has been published in a range of international journals, she has presented at a number of international conferences, and she has received contracts to and scholarships to conduct research in this area. Her thesis undertakes a comparative examination of the governance regimes surrounding patient safety in Canada and the United Kingdom and analyses why those regimes are so very different.
