Alastair MacAdam has qualifications in both accounting and law. He was originally a banker. Alastair then lectured at the Commerce Department at the University of Queensland from 1976-1980 when he joined the QUT Law Faculty.

His major publications include A Macadam& T Smith, Statutes - Rules and Examples, 1st edn 1985, 2nd edn 1989, 3rd edn 1993, Butterworths; and A Macadam& J Pyke, Judicial Reasoning and the Doctrine of Precedent in Australia, Butterworths, 1998.

Alastair has been extensively involved in the delivery of training courses for industry, government and the legal and accounting professions.
