Deborah obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree with honours from the Queensland University of Technology. Deborah completed the Legal Practice course in 1993 and was the recipient of the Rod Grant Memorial Prize. After being admitted in 1993 Deborah practised as a general practitioner in small inner city firms. Deborah was primarily active in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Family, Estates and Property Law (including leases and conveyancing).

Deborah is the Warden of the Bar Practice Course and has performed that role for over 20 Bar Practice Courses. She is the on-line coordinator for the Legal Practice Course and in that role she has project-managed the creation of the on-line version of the Legal Practice Course between 2004 and 2005 and she has managed the migration of the on-line course to QUT Balckboard in 2007.

Deborah has completed the Advocacy Institute of Australia’s teacher training course in 1998. She used the knowledge gained during this course to design and run an advocacy training session for Legal Practice in 1998. She has assisted Legal Aid Queensland with their advocacy training program for several years. She has also made significant contributions to developing advocacy training in the Legal Practice Course in the areas of the 'Advocacy Intensive Weekend', the Criminal Law Practice module of LPP116 Electives and the advocacy component of LPP117 Interaction.

Deborah received a QUT Teaching Excellence Award in 2006 for her work as the Legal Practice Course On-line Co-ordinator.
