Dr. Chay has played a leading role in the development of numerous teaching and
learning projects within the Faculty including the LawSim computer-assisted
learning
program and the Law School’s clinical legal education program. He has developed
practical legal training courses in securities, company, family law practice,
and
alternative dispute resolution. He has undertaken the restructuring of the Graduate
Diploma in Legal Practice and the establishment of a Law School interviewing
competition.
In the areas of research and community service, Mr Chay was one of the editors
of the
CCH Queensland Conveyancing Law and Practice service for six years. He has
contributed articles on practical legal training, solicitor's costs, and clinical
education
to professional journals. He is the co-author, with Judy Smith, of Legal Interviewing
in
Practice, LBC Information Services Inc, 1996. In 1997 and 2003, he was the Chairperson
of the
Australasian Legal Education Council (APLEC) and he hosted the Council’s
annual
conference. Prior to joining QUT, Mr Chay practised as a solicitor.
