Initially embarking on a career in news journalism with the BBC, in 2002 Professor O'Brien moved into the academic arena as Senior Research Fellow in the Institute of Governance at Queens University, Belfast. Two years later he was a Senior Lecturer and by 2004 was appointed Course Director, LLM Corporate Governance and Public Policy, at the School of Law. In August 2006, he accepted a position as Professor of Corporate Governance in the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (an Australian Research Council Special Research Centre) within the Australian National University. Professor O'Brien has just relocated to Brisbane to embark on a joint QUT research position with the Faculty of Business and the Faculty of Law. Professor O'Brien holds a Visiting Professorship at the School of Law, University of Glasgow and is a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for the Study of Law and Society at the University of California, Berkeley.
