From modest beginnings in 1977, the Faculty has grown to include a School of Law, School of Justice, Law and Justice Research Centre and the Legal Practice Unit. The Faculty’s Law School is the second largest in Australia. To celebrate, the Faculty is hosting a number of events throughout 2007. All events are being supported by Moet Hennessy Australia, Merlo Kitchen and the Queensland Law Society and are by invitation only. For more information please phone 3138 1058 or email a4.henderson@qut.edu.au. Opening of the School of Justice at Gardens Point Date Thursday 19 April Part of what makes QUT Faculty of Law unique is its coupling of Law and Justice as the two Schools within its umbrella. Uniting the Schools on the same campus is a key component of the strategy to exploit the synergies that exist between these twin disciplines. The Faculty is very pleased to welcome its Justice colleagues from Kelvin Grove to the Gardens Point campus, and looks forward to a number of innovative collaborations in the years to come. In addition to relocating to new premises, 2007 will see the School of Justice developing an exciting range of postgraduate programs to complement its recently revised Bachelor of Justice program. The School will also continue as a high priority its research projects in areas such as overseas policing assistance, health security, organised crime and cybercrime. Launch of the QUT Law & Justice Research Centre Date Tuesday 15 May The QUT Faculty of Law has always been dedicated to servicing the needs of the local law and justice professions, and has a proud history of professionally focussed research. The 21 st century sees the Faculty’s professional focus expand to include research of national and international importance. The QUT Law and Justice Research Centre has been created to house and promote leading edge research in select specialist areas, and to facilitate research partnerships with other research bodies, industry and the professions. The launch of the Centre has been timed to coincide with Queensland Law Week, highlighting the key role the Faculty’s research will continue to play in the local legal community. 30th Anniversary QUT Faculty of Law Cocktail Function Date Thursday 23 August Mingle with guests from State government, the Queensland judiciary and the local law and justice professions.
