Hi, I'm Andrew Cameron. I'm a QUT graduate. I have degrees in Law and Information Technology.

Why did you choose to study law at QUT?

QUT being, you know, a cutting edge university was one of the few universities that was offering the law, information technology combined degree that I wanted to do.

Is QUT really a university for the real world?

My peers from other universities, you know, who I work with, when we say the sorts of things that we did at QUT they're often like "Oh wow, you know, we just learned that out of the text book." We didn't do a mock trial. We didn't do a criminal law hearing. But in terms of giving you the practical grounding that you need to be competitive in the market, to get a job, and then to hit the ground running, QUT was great for me.

Do the lecturers know their stuff?

The lecturers are very well regarded in the industry as being experts in their field. The text books that we use everyday, you know in our practice, are written by lecturers from QUT.

How is a QUT law degree viewed by the industry?

QUT has such a good association with all of the law firms, the QUT law student association and law firms have a very close relationship.

Getting that necessary work experience that will end up getting you a job is something that if you go to QUT and you pay attention, it's very easy to do it.

And the future?

I intend to pursue intellectual property, music and entertainment law because it's my area of interest. But realistically I could pretty much do anything I wanted to. Australian lawyers are in very high demand in London, a lot of Australian lawyers go and work in America so the possibilities are endless.
