WA Lee Equity Lecture

The WA Lee Equity Lecture is held each year in honour of foremost equity and trusts academic and author, Mr W.A. "Tony" Lee.
This Lecture is organised by the Faculty of Law in collaboration with the QUT Centre for Philanthropy and Non-Profit Studies and the Queensland Community Foundation.

Mr Lee was the guest of honour and speaker at the inaugural lecture in 2000.


The WA Lee Equity Lecture is published each year in the QUT Law and Justice Journal. Copies can be obtained by subscribing or by telephoning (07) 3138 5203.

  • In 2000 W.A."Tony" Lee. presented the inaugural address
  • In 2001 Mr Hubert Picarda QC, an international doyen of Charity Law, presented "The Preamble to the Statue of Charitable Uses 1601: Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland?"
  • In 2002 The Honourable Justice William Gummow AC  spoke about "Equity : Too Successful?"
  • In 2003 The Hon. Justice Margaret White of the Supreme Court of QLD presented on the topic of "Equity - A General Principle of Law Recognised by Civilised Nations?"
  • In 2004 The Hon. Justice B H McPherson CBE topic was "How Equity Reached the Colonies"
  • In 2005 The former Dean of the QUT Faculty of Law, Professor Malcolm Cope presented on the topic of "Developments in Equitable Relief"
  • In 2006 Professor Charles Rickett speech title was "The Equitable Lien and Personal and Proprietary Claims Against Trustees in Breach"
  • In 2007 The Honourable Justice Hadley spoke about "Unconscionability in Estoppel by Representation"
  • In 2008 The Honourable Justice Kirby presented the topic "Equity Australian Isolationism"
  • In 2009 The Honourable Justice Patrick A. Keene presented the topic "The Conscience of Equity"
  • In 2010 The Honourable Justice Paul de Jersey AC presented the topic "Court Intrusion into Testamentary Disposition: a Beneficial Jurisdiction?"

In 2011 The Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC will be presenting the lecture on the topic "Faith Hope and Charity: the resilience of the charitable trust from the middle ages to the 21st century."
