QUT students compete in moot competitions locally, interstate and overseas. Students develop their advocacy skills in moot competitions.

Elective units in Mooting include LWB417 and LWB418. Students enrolled in these units will gain credit for their mooting performances in competitions at which they represent QUT. QUT students generally enter these competitions:

Mooting is also assessed in some other units of study in order to develop generic skills.

QUT students have won prestigious titles including:

  • Stetson University College of Law International Environmental Moot
  • the Australian champions of the Law Council of Australia's ALSA Moot Competition
  • best orator at ALSA
  • represented Australia in the Trans-Tasman Family Law Moot
  • first place in the Pan- Pacific Moot Competition
  • first at the break at the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
  • first place in the Oxford IP Moot
  • Best Mooter in the Oxford IP Moot.

Mooting prepares students for courtroom practice and hones the skills of those wishing to become barristers.

Mooting is only available to students enrolled in the School of Law.
