The Legal Practice Unit offers or hosts these professional training courses:

Legal Practice Course (Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice – LP41)
Bar Practice Course
Trainee Solicitor Program

The Legal Practice Course is postgraduate course that satisfies the practical training requirement for admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland.  We offer the course in full-time (on-campus) and part-time (on-line) modes.  Or Legal Practice Course is practical and it is effective and in preparing law graduates for admission to practice as legal practitioners.

The Legal Practice Unit hosts the Bar Practice Course on behalf of the Queensland Bar Association.  The Bar Practice Course is usually a prerequisite to being able to practice as a barrister in Queensland.

The Trainee Solicitor Program satisfies the requirement that law graduates in 'Supervised Workplace Experience' programs (formerly 'articles of clerkship') in law firms have to complete 90 hours of 'approved training' as a prerequisite for admission as a legal practitioner.

The QUT Legal Practice Unit has been providing quality practical legal training to law graduates for 30 years.  We have close relationships with many leading Queensland solicitors, barristers, judges and other professionals, who assist us with our courses in many ways that include, by teaching students, by providing materials, by assessing advocacy skills, and by providing on-going advice about how to keep the course up-to-date and relevant.

Our full-time on-campus students have access to many modern facilities including fully networked PCs for their sole use during the ‘Office Program’ component of the course.   Our part-time on-line students have access to interactive materials delivered via QUT Blackboard.

Our staff has expertise in providing professional training as well as ‘real-life’ experience in practising law.  Our staff has authored several ‘practical’ legal texts and they have made many presentations at professional legal education conferences.  More details of our staff are available in the Faculty Staff Directory.
