QUT's Reconciliation Statement commits the university to sustainable reconciliation between Indigenous (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) and non-Indigenous Australian people and recognises the particular responsibility of educational institutions in redressing disadvantage and overcoming prejudice. Students and staff are encouraged to visit the Reconciliation at QUT website which provides a unique forum for information exchange and general awareness raising both within the university and wider communities. In the spirit of Reconciliation, the acknowledgement to traditional owners is an important protocol when QUT staff and students come together. Staff are encouraged to download a copy of a statement (Powerpoint slide) to acknowledge traditional owners. The QUT Faculty of Law is committed to making its courses accessible to Indigenous students and assisting them in their transition to university. The Faculty has the highest representation of Indigenous students within QUT and works in partnership with the QUT Oodgeroo Unit to provide financial support and employment opportunities for Indigneous students. The Faculty received the QUT Equity Award for Reconciliation in 2003 and 2005.
